ELYSEE PALACE
The Elysee Palace1 in France enjoys2 equal popularity in the world with the Buckingham Palace in the United Kingdom, the Kremlin in Russia as well as the White House in the U.S.A. It is the residence of the president of the French Republic and the symbol of the supreme authority in France.
The Elysee Palace, with3 an area of 11,000 square meters, is at3 the eastern end of the Champs Elysee in3 the bustling city of Paris proper and backed by a large and tranquil garden of more than twenty thousand square meters. Its main building, quite handsome and graceful, is a 2-story classical stone architecture of European style, flanked by two side buildings facing each other and with an extensive rectangular courtyard in the middle. There are altogether 369 halls and rooms of different size.

Ecotourism
Thinking about going off the beaten path1 for your next vacation? If so, you might be one of the many people who2 are enjoying a relatively new mode of travel known as ecotourism. As the name implies, ecotourism focuses on conserving the ecology and natural heritage of tourist destinations. In addition, ecotourism features indigenous cultures and promotes ways for local communities3 to control and maintain their resources.
In the past, vacationers usually spent their time4 staying at luxury hotels and visiting famous landmarks5 and museums in cities such as New York, Paris and Tokyo. Others preferred to relax on the beautiful beaches of Hawaii or the deck of a cruise ship in the sunny Caribbean. 6 There was little interaction with the local people and overcrowding often spoiled the natural beauty of popular vacation spots. In addition, excessive commercialization turned many places into tourist traps.

Beijing Is No Longer Like a Black-and-White Photograph
Vacationing in China was a new1 experience. In Beijing in the 1980s2, we felt like birds in a cage. At that time foreigners couldn’t travel at will around the country. My few trips outside Beijing were usually “business only”. Few Chinese cities were open to foreigners, and we needed travel permits everywhere we went. Airline flights were few, tickets were hard to get and they cost more for us than for Chinese citizens. Worst of all, our interactions with Chinese people were extremely limited. For example, two men stood at the door of the hotel where we lived, challenging3 every Chinese who entered. You could say that our China experience was shallow. We hoped for a deeper kind of experience in 2001.
In my memory, Beijing was like a black-and-white photograph. Few cars were on the streets, only bicycles. Everyone wore dark blue clothing. In the parks, the ground was bare of even a blade of grass. The gray buildings all looked alike. But when I stepped off the plane in Beijing on 20 September 2001, the black-and-white photograph exploded into bright color and came to life. Impressive new high-rise buildings4 lined the streets5, which6 were jammed with buses, trucks, and private cars. People wearing colorful clothing thronged the department stores and bookstores. Coffee houses, fast-food joints4, and every kind of restaurant beckoned us to try every kind of food. Small children played happily in verdant parks. Is this Beijing, I wondered, or Hong Kong? I walked and gawked, like a peasant visiting the city for the first time.

Converting the Masses: Starbucks in China
It sounds like Mission Impossible:Sell coffee to China’s tea drinkers. Starbucks’ solution is to select high-profile locations1 on the busiest streets, where stores are sure to se duce the seeand-be-seen set.
As Starbucks launches an aggressive expansion in China,a coffee frontier steeped in nearly 5,000 years of tea3. The goal:to build hip hang-outs that tap into a new taste for China’s emerging middle class.4

The Significance of Travel
Tourism is (represents) a [kind of]1 popular and pleasant activity that combines sightseeing, recreation and health care. With the passage of time, tourism has been developing.2 Since the middle of the 20th century, [modern] 3 tourism has been growing at a fast pace around the world. The number of tourists has been rising, the scale of the tourism industry has constantly been expanding, and the importance of tourism in the economy has grown obviously.4 Tourism acts (serves) gradually as an important bridge for cultural exchange and friendship6, and it exerts a steadily7 broadening influence on daily life (human life) and social progress among [people of various] countries5.
From ancient times to the present, tourism has demonstrated the happy wish of the people for more knowledge, varied experience and good health. In the distant past (In ancient times), (ancient)8 Chinese thinkers recommended [raised the idea of[9 “appreciating the landscape through sightseeing.” Ancient people also proposed to “travel ten thousand li and read ten thousand books,” which shows they found pleasure in enriching themselves mentally and physically through traveling over famous mountains and rivers.

Tibet
Once almost a synonym for remoteness, Tibet has in recent years experienced rapid (a surge of ) development and tourism, bringing camera phones and tour guides/leaders waving/wielding megaphones to sites like the jokhang temple. Tourism to Tibet is increasing quickly/jumping/soaring/skyrocketing, a result of rising Chinese incomes, growing Chinese fascination with Tibetan Buddhism and easier access of the roof of the world. This summer, china opened a railway leading to Tibet ,which is a marvelous engineering feat(Beijing unveiled an engineering marvel of a train line to Tibet.). the train climbs to (a height of )4,876 meters, becoming the highest railroad in the world.

Toward a Robust Chinese Software Industry
The growth of the hardware industry in China is a worldwide success story. (China's thrivinghardware industry is a success story recognized throughout the world.) With annual growth in PC sales of 40% over the past five years, China is the star of the Asian region and one of the bright lights around the world (and also a bright star in the global galaxy).
While the software industry in China has also grown over the past five years, it has not seen the level of growth one would expect, given the number of PCs in use. (In the past five years growth of the Chinese software industry, though steady, has not been in proportion to the number of PCs.) Software revenue per PC, one measure of the health of the software industry in a market, is particularly (surprisingly) low in China compared to other countries in the region.
The primary challenge to the development of the software industry in China is rampant software piracy. (Unrestrained software piracy continues as the primary challenge to progress in China's software industry.) Piracy is a worldwide concern of the software industry, and no country is immune.

Traditional Chinese Culture
The traditional Chinese culture, both extensive and profound, starts far back and runs a long, long course. More than 2,000 years ago, there emerged1 in China Confucianism represented by2 Confucius and Mencius, Taoism represented by Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi, and many other [theories and] doctrines that figured prominently in the history of Chinese thought, all2 being covered by the famous term (all under the well-known heading), “the masters’ hundred schools/the Master’s One Hundred Schools.”
